List of 1906 Graduates
Valentine Nebraska High School
1906 Graduates of Valentine High School,
Valnetine, Nebraska
1. Miss Clara Dunham entered
high school this year and has been in all our classes, except Cicero. On
account of not having taken this she will not be able to graduate with us.
We are sincerely sorry for her for she seems as one of us.
2. Ina Spratt was born Feb.
28th, 1890 at York, Nebraska. She is the youngest girl in the class and
like all small children is inclined to lose her patience once in a while.
She is one of the best in the class in literature. Her stories are very
original.
3. Miss Bessie Schifferns was
born Nov. 13th, 1883 at Beamer, Neb. She taught school several years
before she entered high school and it is owing to this that she has such a
dignified way. We feel sure that she will again resume her teaching.
4. Miss Bessie Gaskill was
born Oct. 6th, 1888, at Hay Springs, Neb. She is jolly and full of
fun. She doesn't like the name Gaskill and thinks perhaps some day she
will be able to exchange it for a better one.
5. Mr. William B. Haley first
opened his kindly blue eyes to take a first look at this great world Oct 19th,
1889, in the beautiful little city of O'Neill. When but a small child his
parents brought him to Valentine where he got lost on the school grounds of
Valentine High School. He hopes to escape this year and judging from his
punctuality, high ambitions, excellent recitations, and knowledge of patent
leather diamonds we are sure he will succeed. We have learned to overlook
his greatest fault, the awful habit of looking at his watch every five minutes
since we know that it contains two faces. One tells the time, the other
the "Old, Old Story,", and why Willie is sometimes so absent minded.
6. Claudia Wells was born at
Schuyler, Neb., July 24th, 1887. She began to talk when but 9 months old
and has talked continually ever since. She intended to graduate at
Schuyler but when she came to Valentine and saw what a bright and handsome
graduating class we would be she decided to stay and graduate with us.
She is bright, she is smart;
Her name's engraved on an electrician's heart.
7. Mr. Louis Hoenig first made
his appearance on the scene July 23d, 1888, at Pierce, Neb. They say he
was a good natured baby. We are sorry that nature has wrought such a
change in his disposition. He intends to be a doctor and we are sure he
will be a good one. He will cure all Seniors of heart ache and brain
trouble during the next three years for half price.
8. Hattie Gaskill was born
Dec. 23rd, 1887, near Hay Springs, Neb. She has been with us for three
years. She is exceedingly good natured and her laughing brown eyes have
completely won our hearts. She obtained her early education in the
country, but now
In our daily tasks she shares,
And then walks home with happy airs. (Ayres).
9. Margarite Quigley was born
Nov. 1889in Valentine, Neb. and has gone to the Valentine school ever since:
She is a happy, blue-eyed lass;
One of the brightest in the class
10. Ethel Sherman was born Feb.
15th, 1889, in Valentine, Neb. She is bright and full of fun. Her
chief amusement is watching the fishermen strolling along the shores of the
great Mennechadusa, or sometimes she strolls with one of them amid the willows
that grow on the banks. In fact she is so fond of the fishermen (F_____men)
that we think there is a great danger that she will become a fisher (Fischer)
some day.
11. Miss Agnes Taylor was born Nov.
22d, 1887, in Valentine, Neb. She has very high ideals. The one with
blue eyes and black hair is about six feet four inches. The other is about
seven feet. She has dark brown eyes and is very attractive.
12. Mr. George Ayres was born near
Crookson, Neb., Sept. 20th, 1887
On account of his modest and bashful way,
They elected him president so they say.
He came from a farm on the western plains,
The V. H. S. has developed his brains.
13. None of us know when or where John
Harvey was born. On account of his bashfulness we have refrained from
asking him. But we surmise it was some time in March, 1888. He is
noted for his punctual attendance at Sunday school and always goes to church
when more pressing duties do not hinder. He has even been known to borrow
a bible from a primary pupil. We wish to make the announcement that he is
to be the minister of the class and will perform all marriage ceremonies of
Seniors during the next two years for half price.
14. Nettie Handy was born at
Chadron, Neb., Aug. 24th, 1888. She has dark auburn hair and brown
eyes. She is excellent in Arithmetic and says she is going to be a
stenographer. But O! pshaw (O! S______ ) we know better. We know
that she would make a better housewife than anything else.
15. Anna Stetter was born Sept. 8th,
1886, in Valentine, Neb. She is a good student and especially excels in
Geometry. She has a frank (Frank) and lovable disposition. She is
rather bashful at times and does not like to turn her face to the class when she
recites, but is very fond of standing before us by Professor's desk and giving
book reviews.
16. Carrie Stetter was born in
Valentine, Neb., Dec 30th, 1887. She has black eyes and dark brown hair
and is very dignified. She is very fond of writing poetry.
17. Ruth Stetter was born Feb. 10th,
1888, in Chadron, Neb., and most certainly we could not get along without her
smiling face and jolly presence.
Miss Nelson has been with us four years,
during which time she has worked faithfully.
Professor Watson has been with us for ten
years. He has made the Valentine school one of the first in the state.
