PIONEER RESIDENT LAID TO REST
On Thursday, May 15 occurred the funeral of Mrs.
Ed Laessig Sr. an old resident of the town of Eau Pleine, born in Holland on
January 5, 1835 (6 Jan. 1836 in other records) and at the time of her demise was
86 years 4 months and 8 days old.
She came to this country in 1854 and at the age
of 19 married Ed Laessig. To the fortunate couple were born eleven children, six
boys and five girls. The family moved to Webertown in 1882 and the home
has been there ever since.
Mr. Laessig passed away in 1916 (actually 10
April 1915 according to his death certificate registered with the Marathon
County, Wisconsin Register of Deeds office) since which time Mrs. Laessig has
kept up the home for her son Louis. The deceased had the honorable
distinction of having 10 grandsons in the world war all of whom came back
safely.
The survivors are five sons, Henry, Fred, Frank,
Charles, and Louis all of Stratford and four daughters, Mrs. Mary Ruder,
Merrill, Mrs. John Kissinger, Victoria, B.C. Canada, Mrs. Michael B. Wagner,
Stratford, and Mrs. Daniel Vandehey of Loyal, besides 74 grand children and 33
great grandchildren.
Mrs. Laessig was a splendid example of our old
type settlers, thrifty, of high character and always read to do good.
The last rites were heard at the Catholic church
with Rev. Fr. Schumacher officiating. Internment in the Catholic Cemetery,
Stratford.
