Michigan Langland Funeral Homes. George was my Grampa, I loved him ALOT. I am
currently only 14, so bare with me. I used to spend the night there, and he
would sleep on the couch for me to have a bed. When I was 11 I had to move to
NC, and I said my goodbye. That was 2000. I talked to him ONCE on the phone, he
told me about the weather, and how Grandma was doing. I said goodbye after only
talking to him for minutes, I wish I would of never gave the phone to my mom.
That was his last goodbye to me, and I didnt even care at the time. I thought he
would always be there. He was a kind person. He lived in
Kalamazoo, Michigan, and he owned a small garden, the neighbors would come and
pick food from it, and he would send them baskets of veggies too. It wasn't his
garden, it was everyone else's. I remember one time my mom was mad at him, and
wouldn't talk to him, and he made a point to get her a bushel of apples, his way
of saying I'm sorry for what I've done. Every birthday of mine,
he would get a card, and give me money. Then Grandma would give me money too, so
he wanted to be the bigger doner, so he gave me MORE MONEY! He was a real kind
man. I remember going to his house for Halloween, and he had
bags full of candy prepared for the neighborhood kids. I would always take some
candy, but I cant remember saying thanks. But it didnt get to him, he loved
giving, not receiving, (and he also loved hunting, lol) I
dont know if this is supposed to be notes on his death, but to me his life was
more important. And this is also from my memory of it, it shows how others were
effected in a way. He died of a ruptured ulser, but not instantly. He collapsed
on the steps where my Aunt found him. He was sent to the hospital. And I, still
living in North Carolina, had no clue. That morning, my mom,
who also lives in NC, felt a little funny, and got up and had a snack at about 2
in the morning. We still did not know. When she was eating, the phone rang.
It
was my other Aunt, what a coincidence she called when mom was awake. We might
not of gotten that call... We were told it was serious, and we had to come home.
Grandpa was in the hospital, but did not answer to anything, except when my
family was talked about. He would squeeze the persons hand that was talking to
him. We left that night, and got to Michigan early, right in Schoolcraft,
outside Kalamazoo, we needed gas. My mom decided to look at the paper. She
yelled. There was a notice of his death. He had died only a couple of hours
after we had left on the twelve hour journey. Never got to say I love you, or
goodbye, forever. So this is my only chance i guess... Goodbye
