(Mexico) on October 3, 1937. He was the son of Dudley E. Blaise Sr. (1908-1988) and Clara Olive Snyder Blaise (1906-1976), both of whom were American citizens and residents of Guanajuato, Gto. Mexico, where they owned and operated the El Cedro Mining Company. His father Dudley E. Blaise Sr. abandoned his mother in 1939. He was reared in the home of his maternal grandmother Mrs. John Abbott (Mabel Mitchell) Snyder, 412 North Moffet Ave., Joplin, Missouri, where he attended Columbia Elementary School. His maternal grandfather John Abbott Snyder was the founder of the Snyder Transportation Company,an inter-urban bus line later purchased by the Crown Coach Company, the Jefferson Lines. His mother, Clara Olive, was granted a divorce from his father Dudley E. Blaise Sr. on grounds of desertion on November 30, 1949 in Jasper County Court. She married Charles Maynard Shepherd, director and treasurer of the Empire District Electric Power Company on December 3, 1949. Mr. Shepherd died in New York City in 1955. Dudley Jr. was graduated from Joplin High School as John Snyder Shepherd. He was editor of The Spyglass, a captain in the ROTC and a member of the National Honor Society. During high school he served as an assistant scout master and worked as a counselor at Boy Scout Camp Ni-Ka-Ga-Hah during the summer. Althought he was awarded an NROTC scholarship and a journalism scholarship to the University of Missouri, he declined to accept either scholarship. He attended college at Kansas State University in Pittsburg, at Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield, where he worked part time as a radio newscaster and as an SMS lifeguard. Following two years of active duty with the U.S. Army, he underwent surgery at the Mayo Clinic in 1966 for a brain tumor, which resulted in partial deafness, facial paralysis and periodic seizures. He was awarded a B.S. degree in business administration from the University of Oklahoma in 1970 and was employed at the University as a acounselor, as an accounting clerk, and as a Student Union employee. He died on April 2, 2002 of a brain seizure complicated by pneumomnia at Cox Hospital in Springfield, where he had been a patient about six days. He apparently had been homeless for the better part of 30 years. No member of his family was contacted at the time of his death. His only surviving relative, Thomas M. Blaise Shepherd, did not learn of his death until February 2004. He was a third cousin of Barry M.
